Next up we have Heyson Tang who shares his experience as JUMP CUT 2014’s committee Vice President. If it sounds like something you’d love to get involved in… sign up to be part of the JUMP CUT 2015 team now!

What was your favourite thing about JUMP CUT 2014?
I most enjoyed the post-screening discussions. I learned a lot about film and encouraged me to watch and see the films from different perspectives.

Any good anecdotes?
There were many funny moments, including ones that come down to language. My English isn’t bad, but when I’m with international school students, I always end up mispronouncing words. One particular committee member always teases me when I say ‘want’ isntead of ‘won’t’.

Which film made the greatest impact on you?
'Disconnect' made the greatest impact on me. Before I joined the JUMP CUT 2014 team, I had heard about it, but did not realise what a great film it was.  The writing is very realistic without being over sentimental. It depicts the emptiness of modern city life. The nuances really got me to think about how technology impacts us.

Why do you think others should join JUMP CUT
As the saying goes, don’t waste away your youth. If you have a dream in mind, such as organising a film festival where you get to share your favourite movies with others - then do it.  Increase your film knowledge and hone your organisational skills. It’s a great opportunity to get to know more people and different movie talents. There are huge benefits as being part of the team. So sign up now - do not let yourself regret passing up this opportunity!
